 Upon graduating from high school in 1984, Erin P. Edgar enlisted in the U.S. Army, completing courses, receiving his Regular Army commission from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, advancing in rank, and building a career over 30 years. During his early military years, he attained a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the U.S. Military Academy and a Doctor of Medicine from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Spending a significant portion of his career as a “muddy boot doctor,” he excelled as a flight surgeon—jumping out of airplanes and flying helicopters—with Delta Force, an officer in charge with the Monroe Troop Medical Clinic, and a command surgeon with the 82nd Airborne Division.

In 2003, when the Iraq War began, Dr. Edgar was active as a commander for the Department of Combat Medic Training and then for the 264th Medical Battalion. During the busiest stretch of the war, he commanded the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Iraq—over 15 months, he led an organization of 725 people; his became the most casualty-laden combat support hospital ever deployed, treating 6,000 trauma patients and performing more than 15,000 surgeries. In addition, they transfused nearly 20,000 units of blood. Despite the constant threat of being rocketed and mortared, Dr. Edgar and his team continued their work.

Dr. Edgar bolstered his credentials further with a Master of Science in strategic studies from U.S. Army War College in 2009, after which he continued commanding such posts as the 18th Medical Command in Hawaii, U.S. Central Command, where he oversaw the Department of Defense medical policy for 20 countries in the Middle East, and U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases, a biodefense laboratory. He found success as the medical director of the Department of Soldier Medicine from 2017 to 2022, was the director of medical affairs for the Merck Federal Vaccines Program for a year, and has been active since 2023 as the chief executive officer of his own solopreneur firm, Edgar Consulting. In this capacity, he provides leadership coaching and training to individuals and groups.

Additionally, he’s a prolific public speaker, presenting across numerous military medical conferences and universities, wielding expertise in the military and healthcare fields, he serves as an on-air radio host for his “Live to Lead” segment on the “Aaron’s High Cap Adventures” radio program every fourth Saturday on 105.1 KMIL out of Cameron, Texas. As a testament to his accomplishments throughout his career, he’s accrued numerous accolades within the military, including a Senior Flight Surgeon Badge, Combat Action Badge, Meritorious Unit Citation, Overseas Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Legion of Merit. Most recently, he was recognized as a Top Doctor in Texas in 2024.

Looking toward the future, Dr. Edgar looks forward to mentoring young leaders, watching them grow, and expanding his client base. He enjoys playing golf and performing shows with his band in his free time. He and his wife, Kimberly, have two daughters.

BELTON, TEXAS, January 22, 2025 — Erin P. Edgar, MD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who. As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Edgar, a distinguished medical professional and retired colonel, has dedicated over three decades to medicine and military service. Currently serving as the chief executive officer of Edgar Consulting since 2024, he focuses on training budgets for the private sector and military. Leveraging an extensive career marked by significant leadership roles, Dr. Edgar is sought after for his expertise.

Before pivoting into consulting, Dr. Edgar was the director of medical affairs for the Merck Federal Vaccines Program at Merck, serving Alaska and Hawaii remotely from 2022 to 2023. He previously served as the medical director for the Department of Soldier Medicine in Fort Hood, Texas, between 2017 and 2022. Dr. Edgar’s earlier positions included serving as a staff physician at Barquist Army Health Clinic at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland, from 2015 to 2017.

Dr. Edgar’s military career was extensive and included commanding a hospital in Iraq during a critical period of war from 2006 to 2008, leading an organization that treated thousands of trauma patients under constant threat. Among other notable roles, he commanded the 18th Medical Command in Hawaii, focusing on contingencies related to North Korea, commanded the 18th Medical Command in Hawaii, served as a command surgeon for the U.S. Central Command under General Jim Mattis, and was a commander of the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases.

Highly educated, Dr. Edgar received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the U.S. Military Academy in 1988, a Doctor of Medicine from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1992, a Bachelor of Science in tactical and operational aspects of war from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in 2000, and a Master of Science in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College in 2009.

Dr. Edgar is recognized as a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is also active with the Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care and serves as lead consultant for Master Networks. Beyond his professional life, Dr. Edgar is civically engaged with organizations such as the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. He also plays guitar and is a vocalist with the Detrick Protestant Chapel Praise Band.

Becoming a published author in 2013, Dr. Edgar contributed ‘A Triple Option Analgesia Plan for Tactical Combat Casualty Care: TCCC Guidelines Change,’ to the Journal of Special Operations Medicine.

Dr. Edgar was recognized as a Texas Top Doctor in 2024. His success is attributed to several mentors who have influenced his leadership style.
